Fall in the Backyard

During the summer, it seems, I lost interest in taking photographs. But this Fall, I found inspiration once again. So out to the backyard I went, snapping some wonderful Fall pictures. Two of these pictures I went out just after a good rain. I found a feather laying on some withering weeds. Then as I made my way back up to the house, I stop at the old wagon and saw a bird sitting there. Look carefully in the center of the picture to see him.

The Storm

This past week, when I was traveling through Amarillo, TX, a storm came up. The clouds formed such a thick line. And the rain came down so hard I could barely see anything in front of me. I was able to get some shots just before I entered this wicked weather.

Backyard Photographic Journey...

What a pleasant surprise. Last year I stocked my pond with 20 Koi. But, by the end of summer, a crane spotted them and proceeded to eat all but one. That one fish survived over the winter, only to die a few weeks into the spring of this year. So I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a couple of fish in the pond. I decided to get some shots of the fish today when my pond was unusally clear. I still can't believe it... my fish, had fish! This bug also surprised me today. Have you ever heard of the Eastern Eyed Click Beetle? I never have until this little bug showed up at my house. I thought it was a little creepy when I first saw it. But I quickly grabbed my camera and got a couple shots before it flew away. It photographed very well. Very interesting to look at... now that I'm not face to face with it! :o)

Can't wait to see what photographic journey tomorrow brings!

Getting busy

Today is an overcast day, but that didn't stop me from finding something to photograph. In fact, one thing I noticed... is just how BUSY things are out there. Take for example this fine couple, who didn't seem to mind me watching. Upon close inspection... you notice their cute little noses and those chipmuck cheeks... they look as if they came straight out of Whoville.
Then there were those today that don't mind everyone getting in on the act. Heck, while your at it... why not eat some of that leaf too. Some sort of love-orgy-food fest going on here folks.

Well, those are todays pictures. Hope you enjoyed them!

Evening View

This evening, as I walked in the backyard, I noticed how the clouds in the sky looked so fantastic, how the path in the grass leading to the big cottonwood tree was so inviting, and the daisies... they're coming into full bloom. It's almost breathe-taking. How lucky I am. I wish I could live forever, just to enjoy views like this. Seems I have to settle for capturing those moments. But as long as I'm able to give others a chance to see it to... I think I can live with that. This was my world this evening, for a moment... hope yours was just as inspiring and amazing.

Mother's Love

I am happy to report that 4 of my photos were used on the Reliable Carriers (http://www.reliable-carriers.com/) website. Check it out! Just makes my day! :D

My backyard is full of life! To be exact... little bunny life. Yesterday I discovered a Rabbit's nest. All four little bunnies were snuggled up together. It was the cutest thing ever. So what was I to do? Snap some shots off, of course! Here's my favorite shot. Notice the little butt in the air on the right side. I decided to read up on Rabbit's nest, because I was concerned that they might be abandoned. What I found out was... the mother will only come late at night or early in the morning to feed them. She doesn't sit on the nest like most mammals. She covers them in fur and grass to keep them warm throughout the day. She does this so that it won't attract any unwanted predators. As long as those little bunnies have full bellys and aren't crying.... well then, that's the way you know the mother is doing her job. If you move or take the bunnies out of the nest, the distraught Rabbit is known to search for her bunnies for up to a week. Now that's a mother's love!

The Birds of Summer

About a week ago, my husband was out back cutting the tall grass. When I got a phone call from him. He said, "Get out here quick! I think I might have run over some birds!"

Thank goodness... all 3 baby Woodcocks, and the mother, were safe and sound. The noise from tractor had scared them. I decide this was a great chance, since we'd scared the mother bird off any way, to snap some photos of the babies. Don't worry the mother returned the minute I left. If you look... you can actually see me in the birds eye. I'm a giant to that baby Woodcock!

I also had the chance to see and photograph what started out as 3 little blue Robin's eggs, and turned into 2 fluffy little baby Robins. I only had a chance to snap a couple shots of the baby Robins, as the mother was quite mad chirping loudly in a nearby tree. (I realize it's not the best of shots.) Don't you love the baby birds... such a beautiful sign of summer!
